Before + After House Photos

Welcome to our home!!!

I love looking at before and after pictures and seeing the transformations that take place. Anyone seen Fixer Upper!? I love that show. The way Chip & Joanna can completely transform a house is incredible. Well, this is not that, but a little paint and some fixture changes, we turned this house into our home.

We went from a tan interior to white interior because we like the minimal/all-white aesthetic. By painting the walls white, it also made the space look bigger and the ceilings higher (although we already have some pretty high ceilings). One thing I learned when picking out paint types was to paint the kitchen and bathrooms in eggshell, semigloss or gloss; this will make it easier to wipe off smudges and fingerprints. We ended up using eggshell for the kitchen, bathrooms, trims, and doors/door frames.

Throughout the post, I have linked where a lot of our stuff is from. To be honesty, the majority of our stuff is from Target and Amazon (we are obsessed)! Some things are no longer sold, so I did my best to link similar products. If you see something you like and it is not linked, it is because we have been blessed by many who gifted us things. We love our family so much and are grateful for them and their kindness!

When we walked into this house, we loved how it opened up to the fireplace and two big windows looking into the backyard. We love our backyard. It is a great size with a nice concrete area where we added patio furniture. There is a large tree that provides a lot of shade. The only down side to our backyard is that whenever it rains, we gain ourselves a little kitty pool. It is so bad. Luckily it dries up quickly, but we cannot go out there until it does. We also plan to add a “catio“. Our cat Rey, LOVES the outdoors, so we will start with something small for now and build on over the years.

Although the brick was beautiful on its own, I HAD to have a white fireplace and I am glad I went for it. Even though I had help, I never want to paint a fire place ever again, but it sure was worth it. We just love how it looks. I get a little stressed about decorating a fireplace, but for an engagement present, Taylor’s side of the family gifted us this beautiful “The Hearne Family” sign that goes perfect on our mantle. And then what is a mantle without a vase and some greenery?! As for the furniture, I am so grateful that my sister-in-law gave us their coffee table; it was exactly what we wanted! We also have been saving up to get a new couch, so hopefully we can purchase that soon and our family room will be complete!

Here is another angle of our living room. This faces Taylor’s office and front door. We were planning on getting a Nest thermostat, so we were excited to see that the house came with one! We were wanting a lighter wood floor, but are pleased with this color. There are a few scratches, but nothing too noticeable. Luckily, Taylor found extras in our attic.

Thankful the space still seems big with all of our things in here! Taylor covered the windows of his office doors with window film for privacy. He had to use two rolls, but they were easy to cut and apply. The wall the TV is on is huge that our old TV looked tiny on it, so Taylor had to get a 65 inch. I didn’t think we needed a new one, but I do have to admit… it is nice having a big screen.

This room was perfect for Taylor’s office. He makes a lot of videos, so the natural light is great. It is very spacious, which is great for all his instruments and video gear. He already has a desk, but we did like the built in desk to store our printer and paper.

Rey loves to go into Taylor’s office and I think its because he never lets her in there (too many things to scratch and chew on!), so she was very happy to get the chance. The only con to this office is that it gets SO hot in here.

The moment we saw that little nook at the top of the wall, we instantly knew we would turn that into a space for the cats (yes, crazy cat people here)! We also really had to clean and paint that air vent on the wall because, dang, it was gross looking.

We of course needed to buy “steps” for the cats to get to the nook, so we bought floating shelves as well as shelf brackets for support. My parents had extra carpet in their attic and they kindly gifted it to their grand-kitties so they wouldn’t slip when jumping from step to step. Finn is the only cat that uses it, but we are glad at least one cat does! The picture on the wall was from one of our friends wedding. They had an amazing sketch artist who quickly sketches up people from behind, hints their name – The Original Butt Sketch . I loved that Taylor wanted to get this done and hang in our home. We had the perfect place for it!

Yet again, when we saw the area above our bathroom, we saw another area for the cats to hangout. Finn and Rey LOVE this area so much. Whenever we can’t find one of them, this is the first place we check.

I was so excited when I saw that Hearth and Hand with Magnolia had a circle mirror. I had to snatch it up; they went fast and are no longer being sold. We are still updating our furniture in here, but it is slowly coming together! Just across from the bed, there is a door that opens to the patio. Across from the dresser is another closet. At first I didn’t like that idea, but it is the perfect place for our shoes and jackets.

This is the guest bathroom. The previous owners painted the tub for some reason, so unfortunately the paint has started to peel inside. We aren’t a fan of the tan toilet and counter top, so eventually we will remodel this bathroom.

We changed the hand towel rack and toilet paper hardware; not pictured, but they are black to match with the new shower curtain and bath mat. My sister-in-law gave us the white basket and I liked it so much, I bought some for my laundry room!

We loved that this house came with black counter tops; not something you see much of in other houses. It came with a dishwasher, oven, and fridge. The dishwasher unfortunately was gross inside and when we tried to clean it, it began to leak. So, our first surprise expense! Then, we realized we didn’t have a microwave; how could we have missed that?? So, we ended up purchasing one.

We love how the counter tops look with all the white. We plan to paint the cabinets white, but I am terrified to mess them up! So, if you have done this and have tips, please let me know!! I wish the fridge was in a different location. We have to be careful when we open up the fridge door, it hits the door knob.

I have a love hate relationship with my kitchen. I have a lot of kitchen stuff and not as much storage. I couldn’t put my spices in any of those cabinets so I had to hang them inside the pantry door. There also isn’t much storage for large appliances, so I have to store them in the laundry room.

I am not the biggest fan of my pantry; it is so narrow. It is also deep, which gives it more space, but its also hard to get to items in the back. I couldn’t live like this for long, so I had to purchase some baskets. My hope is to eventually “expand” the pantry by building shelves in the laundry room, which is right by the pantry.

Ahh, looks so much better! (Finn had to scope it out, thats how excited we were) This certainly makes it easier to find items. Any overflow, or items that we do not need often, there is room behind the baskets that we can stick those behind. It doesn’t look like they sell the same size baskets anymore, but I will link similar sizes. Also after looking up the link for you guys, I realized I’ve been storing my butter dish upside down!

I love all the nature light that comes through from the dinning room.

The cats like to sit on the window sill and watch everything going on out back, Rey especially. Thus, why we are building a catio! We got the table and chairs from Facebook Market Place.
